Acromegaly is a rare and slowly progressive disorder caused by the hypersecretion of growth hormone (GH), usually due to a benign pituitary adenoma. GH stimulates the production of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), which is elevated in acromegaly and causes the signs and symptoms. Common manifestations include enlargement of the hands and feet, coarsening of facial features, soft tissue swelling, joint pain, sweating, and headaches.1
